Dr. Sajan’s Expertise In Hair Transplant, With Exceptional Care

Dr. Sajan uses state-of-the-art technology to perform minimally invasive hair transplant surgery. He specializes in both follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant surgery techniques. FUT, also known as the strip method, removes a strip of hair from the back of the scalp and transplants the follicles into the thinning and lost areas. FUE—a more modern and less invasive option—uses a small surgical punch tool to remove small bunches of follicles and transplants them to create a fuller hairline and scalp.

As a world renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Sajan has helped many men and women feel more confident in their appearance with hair transplantation. He customizes each hair transplant surgery to the individual patient and their needs.

Hair transplant is not cookie cutter, it must be customized to every patient.

FUT VS. FUE Hair Tranplant

We Offer Both Options

The difference between FUT and FUE hair transplants is how the hair is harvested. With FUE, a linear incision is made and the strip of hair is manually separated into individual grafts. This has the potential to leave a linear scar. FUE does not involve any obvious incisions, but harvests small units of hair with a small punch incision that once healed is not visible.

The two hair transplant techniques also have similarities. They are both usually performed under local anesthesia. While the harvesting methods vary, the transplantation methods are similar.

FUE

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT Strip Technique)

  • Involves a linear incision
  • Often results in a larger number of grafts
  • Grafts must be separated after harvesting
  • Do not need to shave head before surgery
  • More likely to leave a visible scar
  • May be better when a large area needs treated

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

  • Individually harvests grafts
  • No linear incision or scarring
  • Unlikely to require shaving the head, but portions may need to be shaved
  • Hair in the donor area thinned instead of removed
  • Less obvious surgery
  • Minimal recovery time
  • Commonly combined with other procedures

Before & After

Discuss A Treatment Plan For Hair Transplant With

Step I

Patients meet with Dr. Sajan in office or virtually to discuss their patterns of hair loss and goals for the procedure. Most men experience male pattern baldness, but this is not the only possible cause of hair loss. Women also can experience genetic hair loss. In both, pattern baldness takes on specific patterns which Dr. Sajan will identify.

Dr. Sajan will also review the patient’s medical history and lifestyle. While a hair transplant is a minimally invasive surgery under local anesthesia, it is not right for everyone. Most healthy people are candidates.

Step II

After the discussion, Dr. Sajan will physically examine the scalp and hair. This includes looking at the areas of loss and identifying known patterns. He will also examine the potential donor area to ensure there is enough viable hair to transplant without thinning the donor area too much.

Dr. Sajan will provide an idea of what is possible during the consultation by helping patients visualize their new hairline. He may also discuss different treatment options, including non-surgical hair restoration.

Before a patient leaves their consultation, they will receive a price quote catered specifically to their surgery. Quotes are valid for 90 days.

FAQs

Anyone experiencing hair loss and in good health is an ideal candidate for hair restoration. Depending on the hair loss pattern, needs, and overarching goals of the patient, they may be suited for different procedures.
The length of the procedure varies between the two surgical options. Additionally, the amount of hair that needs treatment can affect the length of the surgery. However, both FUT and FUE hair transplants take several hours to perform. A FUT takes around four hours, while an FUE can take up to an entire day.
Every surgery comes with certain risks involved. Both FUT and FUE are considered safe, low-risk surgeries. However, there are risks like infection, scarring, swelling, and prolonged discomfort. These are rare and can be prevented when working with a top hair restoration surgeon.
During the procedure, the patient will not feel any pain or discomfort. However, post-operative pain and tenderness of the scalp are common. This typically wears off after a few days and can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication. Dr. Sajan can also provide a prescription to help ease any discomfort.
Recovery time depends on the type of hair transplant the patient received and the extent of the procedure. Although, patients can typically return to everyday life after two weeks and exercise after six weeks. Dr. Sajan will hold follow-up appointments to ensure the patient can safely return to daily activities.
