What Is Alopecia Areata?
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that causes patchy hair loss. It usually appears as small, round or oval bald spots on the scalp and can also affect the eyebrows and beard. When it affects the beard, it is often called alopecia barbae. In many cases, the patches start small but can grow larger over time. Some patients only experience a few isolated spots, while others may develop more advanced forms, such as:- Alopecia totalis: It involves the complete loss of scalp hair
- Alopecia universalis: It involves the loss of hair across the entire body.
